Bathroom Makeover Case Study: Washed Charcoal Wall Panel

Over the last twenty-five years, Janice and her husband, Steve, have undertaken renovation work to their family home, transforming it from a three-bedroom property into a four bedroom with two en-suites. However, their master bedroom and en-suite, which was part of the original extension, hadn’t been touched for twenty years and the couple decided an interior update was much needed.

The spacious en-suite, which is a generous size, previously featured intricate blue mosaic tiles from floor to ceiling, which were not only difficult to keep clean, but the couple felt had also become dated over time and wanted an update in terms of both style and practicality.

Speaking of the transformation, Janice, from Instagram’s @ourhomeonthefold said: “When we experienced a shower leak a couple of years ago, we decided to stop using the en-suite until it was time to renovate, which turned out to be some years later! After having enough of the room just being used for storage, we finally decided to bite the bullet and transform the space completely, making it into a room we could be proud of.”

Whilst in the initial planning stages of the renovation, the couple came across Showerwall wall panels and were particularly impressed by the fact the panels could cover the mosaic tiles completely, without the need to rip them off and re-plaster the walls.

Janice commented: “My husband is very good at DIY and we were particularly impressed that the Showerwall panels could be fitted over our existing tiles, as it meant the project was less intrusive and overall much quicker to complete.”

With more than 100 different wall panel designs to choose from, Janice and Steve were spoilt for choice but eventually decided on the Washed Charcoal design, which has a textured finish, and used this as the inspiration for the whole room, having decided to create an urban industrial feel.

To complement the industrial feel created by the Washed Charcoal wall panel and to add contrasting textures and create a sense of depth, the couple opted for wood-effect tiles on the adjacent walls, along with a statement matte-black shower, tapware and fittings. The couple opted for antique brass accessories and a beautiful pendant light to help create a sense of warmth – perfect for relaxing.

Speaking of the finished look, Janice commented: “When we received the panels our expectations were surpassed by the quality, finish and ease of installation. The panels look very natural, and we couldn’t be happier with the contemporary look they give. We no longer avoid spending time in the en-suite – in fact, we now can’t get enough of it!”
