This year Showerwall teamed up with first-time homeowners and renovators, Imogen and Tom, of Instagram’s @thelittlehouseinlondon to find out how they created their dream ensuite bathroom in their recently completed loft conversion.
Tell us about your renovation project
“We bought our first home, a traditional two-up, two-down Victorian terraced house, back in early 2020, moving in just six weeks before lockdown. Since then, we’ve been slowly renovating it, completing as much of the work as possible ourselves to save on costs.
“We were finally able to start on our much-anticipated loft conversion in February this year – which was very exciting as it meant we would have a bathroom upstairs.”
How did you design your bathroom space?
“The house is really small, so we’ve had to be smart with how we designed our ensuite, for example we decided to make use of the chimney breast to maximise space and then create a counter for the sink.
“Due to space, we decided to go for an enclosed shower with single bi-fold door. Our builders created the frame for us, including a little inset shelf, and fitted the shower tray and plumbing. This left us three full walls in the shower to waterproof.
“To start the process of choosing our Showerwall panelling, we used the handy online visualiser tool to try out a few different options and see what sort of style we liked. The options were endless and we struggled to choose between the bold and bright designs like the botanical prints, or the tile-effect designs in beautiful herringbone and scallop patterns. The visualiser tool was a great as we could quickly change the style and also try out all of the different trim options available to see what created a cohesive scheme.
“Once we’d narrowed it down to a few favourites, we ordered some samples of each to see them in real life. Immediately, we loved the Veneto Marble style – smooth, realistic and absolutely timeless in design – we knew we had found the one!”
How did you fit the Showerwall panels?
“As serial DIY-ers we are always keen to improve our skills and so we decided to fit the panels ourselves. The installation process was incredibly straight forward and we referenced the online guide and video available on the website if we had any hesitations.
“We measured up, cut each panel and piece of trim to size and then started to fit each panel to the bathroom wall using adhesive to the rear of the panel and pressing the panel to the wall. Once each panel was in place we applied a bead of Showerwall silicon around the edges to ensure it was completely waterproof.”
Talk us through the final result
“We are so happy with the finished design, the Showerwall panelling in Veneto Marble looks so stylish and luxurious. The lack of grout or tile lines creates a really clean line and matching the trim and sealant to our tapware and accessories, ties the whole look together perfectly.
“It’s been easy to keep clean too, a quick wipe down with a squeegee post-shower is super quick. With no grout to deal with, a full deep clean only takes minutes meaning it’s super low maintenance for us.
“We’ve finally got our dream bathroom and we could not be happier with how it’s turned out!”
