Having started renovation work on their 1950’s, 3-bedroom, semi-detached home at the start of 2020, Nataja and her family were soon impacted by lockdown restrictions, as the builders couldn’t complete the work and the price of materials rapidly increased.
Fortunately for the family, the downstairs shower room and W/C had been finished prior to lockdown, meaning they had functioning facilities while main bathroom was put on hold.
Speaking of the early renovation stages, Nataja, from Instagram’s @my_homeandfamily, commented: “We started work just before lockdown and most of the house had been gutted and was an empty shell when we were told the builders could no longer work. We had hoped to finish the upstairs family bathroom when restrictions eased and finances allowed, but fast forward two years and we hadn’t made any progress. With many DIY renovations, you get comfortable, your steam and drive deplete, and you simply learn to live around the unfinished rooms.”
The plumber had prepared the bathroom in the initial stages of the renovation and the room had been used for storage ever since, housing a shower screen, sink, toilet and hardware.
In 2023, Nataja decided it was time to resume the renovation and create the perfect family bathroom. The room is a good size and easily fits a four-piece suit, making the design process much easier.
“I not only longed for the convenience of a second bathroom in the house, but I needed a bath and wanted to create the perfect space to relax and unwind after a long day. I knew I wanted the space to be light, bright, and modern, with a timeless look.”
Nataja came across Showerwall on social media and was particularly impressed by the variety of different design options and the ease of installation. With more than 100 wall panel designs to choose from, Nataja immediately fell in love with the Positano Grey Terrazzo design and wanted to create a statement feature against crisp white walls.
“After exploring the benefits, using Showerwall panels for our family bathroom felt like a no brainer. One of the main reasons I chose Showerwall was the ease of installation. I had tiled before but felt overwhelmed at the thought of doing our generously sized bathroom. I work full-time and have a young family; it just didn’t seem possible. The fitting of the panels couldn’t have been easier, and the locking system of the panels was a dream. The instruction manual was a great resource and made the install a very simple task.”
The Positano Grey Terrazzo panels have been neatly finished off with black trims, to match the fixtures and fittings and create a dramatic statement. Nataja has added warmth to the space by incorporating natural wood, as well as a touch of greenery with hanging house plants.
Speaking of the finished look, Nataja commented: “Tiles, in my home, may be a thing of the past. Showerwall panels have not only transformed my bathroom, but they have shifted my thoughts on what it takes to create a functioning but practical and modern bathroom.”
